The 2024 Toronto—St. Paul's By-election, a contest between the Conservative Party's Don Stewart and the Liberal's Leslie Church amidst Apocalyptic polling for the Liberal Party resulted in Conservatives picking up this normally safe Liberal Riding for the first time since CPC MP Barbara McDougall won it in 1988.
Open due to the resignation of longtime MP Carolyn Bennet so she could become ambasador to Denmark, The swing from 2021 constituted a swing of CPC+25.63% towards the Tories.
The resulting political pressure from this election severely weakened Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's political capital—which, combined with the resignation of longtime Cabinet Minister Cristina Freeland in December of 2024, forced his resignation as Prime minister come 2025.
