Following the Resignarion of NDP member Kennedy Stewart so he can serve as Mayor of Vancouver, this election saw New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh win a seat two years after he became leader of the NDP—allowing him to lead his party in the House of Commons.
The largest victory of Singh's electoral career, this election—held in a 2015 Liberal/NDP marginal riding—would come to see significant growth for the Conservatives in 2019 (with them taking Second in that year, and then 2025)
Of note, Richard T. Lee wasn't the original candidate for the LPC, but rather Karen Wang, who had posted on social media that Chinese voters should vote for her—she is Chinese—rather than Singh, who is of indian Descent.
Nevertheless, Singh won, and served in the House Of Commons until 2025, by which timee he qualified for a Parliamentary Pension.
