Mahmut Göktuğ Drahor

Professor Postdoctoral (Dokuz Eylül University)

BIO

Mahmut G. Drahor graduated in 1983 with BSc in geophysics and M.S. in marine geology and geophysics (1986) at Dokuz Eylül University in İzmir, Turkey. Then he completed his PhD at the Institute of Science of Dokuz Eylül University in 1993. His PhD is the first fulfilled PhD thesis on the investigation of archaeological sites by the help of geophysical techniques in Turkey. Since then he joined active education and research in Department of Geophysics of Dokuz Eylül University. Now, he has been studying as a full professor in this department. Mahmut’s main interest is on the near surface geophysics and archaeological prospection. Also, he interests with geothermal, active tectonics and geotechnics. He has expertise in magnetics, resistivity, GPR, self-potential, induced polarizations, seismics and EM-VLF methods. He institutionalised the archaeological prospection discipline and popularized the application of geophysical techniques at the archaeological sites of Turkey. For this purpose, he also established the Center for Near Surface Geophysics and Archaeological Prospection (CNSGAP) of Dokuz Eylül University in 2004, and he has been fulfilled to directorate of this center from 2004 to 2017. Also, he has organized, planned and participated in more than 100 national and international projects related with archaeological prospection, near surface geophysics, geothermal, active tectonics, engineering and environmental studies in Turkey. Prof. Drahor is an active member of EAGE, ISAP and BGS. Also, he acted as a member of scientific committee of active tectonic research group in Turkey. He has arranged two international (GARS 2008 and 9th. International Conference on Archaeological Prospection 2011) and some national meetings since last ten years. He interest extreme sports such as mountaineering, canyoning and caving. Also, he deals with the tennis and cycling. Mahmut is the WG 2 Deputy Leader of COST Action SAGA.
