New pump circuit
Original pump circuit being soldered to PCB
Mar 26 - We have acquired all the parts needed and have now built a new pump circuit on a breadboard but have not yet gotten it to work. More testing and diagnosing of the circuit will be needed along with help from our technical advisor.
The temperature sensing circuit has been built and tested. It senses changes in temp but might not be effective enough to read if a fever is present from the hands as it’s reading around 30 degrees Celsius which is lower than typical body temp. I have looked and have not found a way to see if the sensor can be calibrated.
The original pump circuit is now in the process of being soldered to a PCB (Printed circuit board) which is proving to be hard than anticipated and will be tested afterwards.
The building of the sanitizer housing is the next major step that will be started as soon as possible.
We are currently behind schedule and over budget due to the purchasing of parts for the new pump circuit as well as building and testing it.
Mar 12 - We were in the process of testing our pump circuit on a breadboard with having intermittent faults. With some suggestions from Professor Hegger there are some components that can be added that could potentially get the pump circuit working properly.
Our technical advisor thinks we should go with a different circuit that would have less power wasted, so we are going to try to build a new circuit while still trying to get original circuit working properly in case we can’t easily get all the parts for the new circuit. This will most likely cause us to fall behind schedule even more.
We are still having trouble getting together in person as much as we would like but are managing to meet more than before.
We are going to start to try to get the temperature sensing circuit started as the parts have just arrived recently.
Feb 24 - Since the last update, it has been a reading week in which our group had no contact. The main task to complete during the week was to acquire parts. Some parts were not easily found so were just very recently ordered. The pump circuit has started to be built with what parts are in possession. Further discussion on power source needs to be done as we will have two separate circuits in our project. So even with the slight delay in a couple of tasks, we are under budget. Coming up one of us needs to do some research into some Arduino coding for our temperature-sensing circuit which could take a bit to learn. Took a while to find an Arduino at a reasonable price but it has been ordered. A local store was found that sells components which made it easier to acquire.
Feb 17 - We are in the process of creating the technical sketches of the project and will not meet the scheduled finish date. The technical design is not going as planned and has been more difficult than expected. Due to a car accident, work schedules, and the distance we live apart from each other we haven’t had a chance to work on the project together yet, so everyone has been working on parts of the project separately which has made for conflicting data or designs. Researching of parts took longer than anticipated but still finished on time. We are currently under budget but a bit behind schedule.
