We assist them as they make their decision in the best interest of their baby and themselves, whether with counseling, parenting, health related issues, adoption or confidentially placing the Safe Haven Baby with their forever home. The life line of A Safe Haven for Newborns is our 24/7 confidential help line (877-767-2229). The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation, a 5013 not for profit established the Safe Haven program in 2001 and hundreds safe haven babies now have a future and over 5,000 women helped in their time of need.

New Jersey's Safe Haven Infant Protection Act allows an individual to give up an infant safely, legally and anonymously. The parents - or someone acting on their behalf - can leave an unharmed baby less than 30 days old with staff at any hospital, police station, fire station, ambulance, first aid or rescue squad. The New Jersey Department of Children and Families will ensure that the infant is placed with a foster or pre-adoptive home.

The Safe Haven Act is a law that allows parents - or another person who has the parent's authorization - to leave an infant up to 90 days old at a hospital, health care facility, a fire station, through a newborn safety device, or to an Adoption Service Provider without fear of prosecution for abandonment. A parent may also contact 911 and relinquish physical custody of an infant up to 90 days old to a first responder of the 911 call. More than 60 children have been declared safe havens since the Iowa law was enacted in 2002. All states have Safe Haven laws, although provisions differ.

A Safe Haven is an institutional health facility - such as a hospital or health care facility, a fire station, a newborn safety device, an Adoption Service Provider or a first responder who responds to the 911 telephone call.

The Safe Haven Act provides immunity from civil or criminal liability for hospitals, health care facilities, fire stations and Adoption Service Providers and persons employed by those facilities that perform reasonable acts necessary to protect the physical health and safety of the infant.

Thursday, the Kansas City Council approved a resolution designating the City of Kansas City a safe haven for gender-affirming healthcare. Recently, the State of Missouri introduced a record number of bills criminalizing access to gender-affirming healthcare across the state. This resolution sends a message to members of the Transgender community the City is committed to furthering Transgender equity and supporting the growing Trans community.
