Dr. Teanna M. Staggs received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1992. Her dissertation, entitled “fur regulation in Yersinia pestis”, the organism that causes Bubonic Plague, was funded through a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant. She continued in research as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in the Microbiology Department working with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Treponema pallidum. Dr. Staggs also received a Bachelor’s in Biology from Hendrix College in Arkansas. She has been a professor at San Antonio College since 1994. At San Antonio College, Dr. Staggs teaches BIOL 2420 Microbiology for Allied Health Majors and has served as the Department Chair for the Department of Natural Sciences since 2004.
