The Legend of Kembang Island
A long time ago, in South Kalimantan, there was a wise and strong leader named Datuk Ujung. He was known for his great power and his loyalty to his kingdom. Everyone respected and trusted him, but people from other places were often afraid of him.
One day, a group of people from China came to the kingdom. They wanted to take the land for themselves. Instead of fighting a war, they gave Datuk Ujung a difficult challenge. They thought this challenge would prove they were stronger. The Chinese people brought a very big Ulin tree. This tree was heavy and very hard to break. They told Datuk Ujung to lift the tree and split it in half. If he could not do it, they would win. Datuk Ujung was calm and confident. He lifted the tree easily, showing his great strength. Then, with one powerful strike, he split the tree into two pieces. The Chinese people were shocked and afraid. They knew they could not win, so they left the kingdom.
As they ran away, one of their ships sank in the river. Over time, this ship became an island. People now call it Pulau Kambang. Today, Pulau Kambang is an important place in South Kalimantan. It reminds people of Datuk Ujung’s strength and his love for his kingdom. Now this island is inhabited by monkeys.
