CIMEL for AERONET

The AERONET program is a worldwide network of sun photometers for ground-based passive remote sensing of aerosols. This is a collaborative project, with more than 600 permanent sites across 102 countries and territories, established by NASA and PHOTONS (PHOtométrie pour le Traitement Opérationnel de Normalisation Satellitaire) in 1998. It has provided quality controlled and readily available observations of aerosol characteristics for more than 30 years. The measurements at our site started on June 14, 2023.

The Sun Photometer CIMEL CE318-T is installed by Texas Tech University at Reese Technology Center near the 200m tower site as a part of the Synergetic Surface-based and Satellite-borne Measurements of Arid-region Aerosol and Precipitation (S3-MAAP).
