Welcome to my website! 


I am Ryo Makioka, currently a visiting scholar in the Department of Economics at Penn State University, a lecturer in School of Economics and Business at Hokkaido University, and a research associate at Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI). Before joining Hokkaido University in September 2021, I received my Ph.D. in Economics from Penn State University in August 2018 and was a research fellow at RIETI from September 2018 to August 2021.

My research interests are International Economics, Applied Microeconomics, and Development Economics. In particular, I have interests and am doing research on the effects of export promotion policies, the impact of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) on low-income households, and the impact of multi-national companies on people in hosting countries.
