DAY 1: Sunday, July 7
The conferees arrived at Mount Saint Mary's College between 2:30 and 3:30pm in the Hudson Parking Lot. They were greeted by many enthusiastic staff members. After arriving, the conferees met with their groups and J.C.'s in the Hudson Hall classrooms. There they discussed what their group projects would entail and participated in many icebreakers. After that, the conferees dispersed to their dorms, unpacked, met their roommates, and settled in. They then went to eat dinner in the Aquinas Hall with their groups. At 7 o'clock, they had their keynote opening with conference leader, Reba Matthews. She introduced the conferees to RYLA and hyped up the crowd. The Keynote Opening was followed by two hours of square dancing to a live band. Square dancing allowed the conferees to become acquainted and build friendships. At 9:45, the conferees were given free time to go to their dorms or hang out with friends at the Hudson Parking Lot. The conferees were in their dorms by 10:30 for bed check. Everyone was excited for the next for days of the RYLA experience!
DAY 2: Monday, July 8
Day 2 began with breakfast at 7:40 am. After the lovely breakfast provided by the MSMC staff the conferees arrived at Hudson Auditorium for a preview of their day and to recap their first day here. We learned that if the conferees lost their personal belongings, they would have to suffer a consequence. Members from the media group had to personally endure the consequences by quacking and acting along to the "Duck Song". This morning we had a guest speaker, Mansi! She preached a positive attitude and mindset following the song, the conferees broke out into their groups and resumed working on their group projects. Then they headed back to Aquinas Hall for lunch. After lunch, they listened to a staff panel called "College 101" which answered their questions about preparing for and applying to colleges and universities. Following College 101, they participated in Born to Be, where they listened to speaker Bri about finding themselves and who they were born to be. Then, it was time for Day 1 of the RYLA Olympics. Groups competed against each other in a number of fun games and activities. After the Olympics it was time for dinner. Following dinner, the conferees were assigned different groups and challenged to invent an item from what seemed to be random items in the Invention Convention. After 55 minutes of inventing, they went up on stage and presented a skit and jingle relating to their item to the entire conference. They then spilt into more random groups and played different leadership roles in Team Dynamics. Before more free time, the conferees listened to the first RYLA News Broadcast presented by Nightly News. After free time the conferees went back to their dorms by 11:00 for bed check and were excited for Day 3!
DAY 3: Tuesday, July 9
Day 3 started out with breakfast at Aquinas Hall that included French toast sticks, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and so much more thanks to the lovely Mount Saint Mary's staff. Then the conferees headed to Hudson Hall for a morning preview with Reba. After left to go to their groups and participate in more ice breakers followed by group project time. The conferees headed to lunch and then listened to wonderful speaker Kiersten Kral who discussed the difficulties of a traumatic brain injury and what it means to live. Then the conferees remained inside due to the heat and participated in the Olympics. Following the Olympics, it was time for another Nightly News Broadcast. The conferees headed to Aquinas Hall for dinner and got changed in time for the Talent Show. Individuals and groups performed a wide range of talents that kept the crowd entertained. After the Talent Show, it was time for the dance. Conferees danced in the Gym from 9:00 to 10:30 and were in their dorms at 11:00 for bed checks.
DAY 4: Wednesday, July 10
The conferees arrived to breakfast at Aquinas Hall at 7:45, excited for another great day at RYLA! Breakfast was followed by the preview of the day with conference leader Reba Matthews. The groups then went on to their classrooms to work on their projects. The conferees then went on to another amazing lunch. They then went on to Rotarian Appreciation Time, where they spent time giving their appreciation for the Rotarians who sponsored RYLA. After that they watched the Engineering group's demo. They the conferees went on to play the RYLA Gameshow and then headed to their final RYLA dinner. Post-dinner, the conferees went to watch the last Nightly News Broadcast and then watched Group presentations from Broadway, Chorus, Dance, Hollywood, Music Video, and Skit-com. After those amazing presentations they then went on to My Two Cents and had their last Social Hour at RYLA. The conferees were in their dorms by 11:00, excited but also sad for their last day.
DAY 5: Thursday, July 11
Conferees started out with breakfast at Aquinas Hall followed by their final morning preview with Reba. Post morning preview, they met with their groups to wrap up their group projects. Then, the conferees headed to Aquinas where they prepped for Graduation and had the Keynote Closing with Reba. They then participated in Fish Bowl where conferees shared special moments from the week and reflected on their experience at RYLA. Then, they remained at Aquinas for their final lunch. After their meal, conferees met in Hudson Hall for the Olympic Scavenger Hunt. They then headed to their dorms to pack up their things. Conferees then greeted families and guests at Aquinas prior to Graduation! After a wonderful Graduation, conferees checked out. BYE RYLA 2024!!!!❤️🥳
