Ryckie graduated with distinction from Norwich Medical School, where he earned both his MBBS and a Master of Clinical Education (MClinEd) with distinctions. He completed his Foundation Years at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and James Paget University Hospital and progressed to Core Surgical Training in Yorkshire, from 2013 to 2015, working at Pinderfields Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary where he attained MRCS. 

Ryckie's academic trajectory advanced significantly in October 2015 when he was appointed as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow and Specialty Training Registrar in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery, serving concurrently as a Visiting Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Leeds where he earned an MSc in Health Research. Shortly afterwards, he was awarded a prestigeous NIHR Fellowship (£573,267) to research "Novel MRI for Diagnosing Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injuries" for which he was awarded his PhD, numerous prize and published several seminal scientific articles. During this prolific period, Ryckie was also recognised and chartered as a biostatastician (GradStat) with the Royal Statistical Society.
