Within the microbiology lab, I was responsible for making/pouring nearly all plates, gels, and media of various types and densities, as well as maintaining stocks of supplies throughout the lab. I documented and maintained the glycerol stock databased for the entire lab. I also completed nearly all the large- and small-scale plasmid preps for the lab, from cell isolation to determining concentrations of DNA. Over all, I mastered the whole cloning process: transformation, ligation, plating bacteria, colony screening, PCR, running and reading gels, and expanding colonies. Outside of working with bacteria, I delved into histology. My experience with mice ranges from being present for injections to personally dissecting out organs, treating and cleaning tissue, embedding it in OCT, using a Cryostat to slice and mount tissue to slides, using ZennPro to record and process both snap and tile scan images of the tissues, and interpreting the images for data. Outside of lab work, I was present for weekly meetings, which allowed me to learn both how efficient meetings run as well as how to understand other scientists while they are sharing data on projects in which I am and am not involved.

The Fallon Center is an event hall with my church, so I usually work only on the weekends, but my scheduling each month is irregular, based on what events have been scheduled. There are usually only two of us for parties of 30-150 people. When I get to an event, I may help with decorating, bouquet making, or any other table setting duties, along with food prep. Food handling can range from plating cookies to chopping fruit, vegetables, and meat to making deviled eggs and soup to filling cannolis or cutting a wedding cake. Once the food is ready, it is usually served buffet style. Cleaning includes everything from collecting used dishes as people finish eating to full scale dish clean-up and collecting all the linens to be taken to the cleaners.
I always have a book with me, regardless of size, typically the bigger, more magical, and fantastical the better. My record time is 992 pages in 10 days. This book is the 8th and final book in a series that finally resolved a two year cliff hanger. I love when, as a reader, I get to learn so much about the characters, who they are, explore totally new worlds. I recently finished the entire Narnia series by C.S. Lewis, and adored it. My favorite author is Sarah J. Maas, but Cassandra Clare, Renee Ahidi, are also pretty amazing, among many others.
