Introduction to Val
I am a genderqueer black lesbian who is based in Spokane, Washington. I am a new-and-upcoming poet who has been tinkering with primarily free-verse poetry since 2019, with many life breaks inbetween. My poetry works are deeply personal and typically relate to topics such as surviving physical and sexual assault, mental health, as well as lived experiences as a black and queer person in the United States.
I published my FIRST poetry work, a free-verse chapbook best described as a post-mortem of an abusive relationship, Tears Over Spilled Beer, in April 2026. You can find more information about Tears Over Spilled Beer below.
If you have any questions, the best way to reach me is via direct message at my instagram, @rwpoetry.
