I am a FWO senior postdoctoral fellow at KULeuven.
My main scientific interests reside in epigenetics. I have approached this vast topic since my PhD from various perspectives: investigating host-pathogen interactions, enhancer-mediated control of cellular identity, toxico-epigenomics and cancer biology.
My recent research explores how metabolism remodelling, triggered by environmental changes, shapes the epigenome by altering the availability of chromatin-relevant metabolites.
My goal is to uncover unifying principles of epigenetic regulation that operate across biological systems and environmental exposures. I conceptualize chromatin as a responsive surface that encodes environmental influences into the genome.
All my research projects aim to understand fundamentally the role of epigenetics in modulating gene regulatory networks within clinically relevant contexts. Understanding the fundamental regulation from external stimuli to gene programs is essential for identifying molecular mechanisms underlying disease, thereby enabling the development of targeted therapeutic interventions.
