Nucleus Colony (Nuc): This is a small chloroplast (not wood) hive box that includes 5 frames of drawn comb, eggs, brood, some nectar, pollen. Also includes nurse bees, and a laying queen that has already been introduced with the rest of the bees in the hive. Our nucs are directly sourced from Stiles Apiaries https://www.stileshoney.com/ .
The bees will need to be transferred from this small 5 frame transportation box to your own full sized box. If you need help with this transfer, join us at one of our monthly meetings and let us know, we are here to help!
*Bee Pick Up*
Nucs will be delivered in Oldwick, NJ (exact address will be shared after purchase) some time in the last week of April.
Our member meeting March 20 is the cut off date for orders.
We will be contacting those who ordered with a more exact date and time as it gets closer. Remember building nucs is dependent on weather and if the bees are thriving. Bees are delivered after dark between 8pm and 10pm. Details will be shared as we get closer to delivery date.
You must be physically present to accept your bees from the delivery driver, or your bees will go home with the driver and payment forfeited as per their policy. Check out youtube for some videos of these cool late night bee meet ups!
*Notes on the nucs*
These bees are overwintered in the South. This means, when they get to us, they are a few months ahead of NJ overwintered bees in their reproductive cycle, so during your transfer, look for signs of swarming and be ready to split very soon! In the past we have received very robust nucs that are absolutely ready to go!
They also will have a mite treatment already in place. This is something that needs to be removed at the correct time and your own IPM immediately begun. We will do our best to find out which treatment and when it was applied so you know when to remove and begin your own IPM.
