I am in charge of an intensive graduate education course at the Master's level on research methods in education, the social sciences, and the humanities at Hiroshima University.
The program focuses on factors and data related to SDGs 3 (Health and Well-being) and 4 (Education) and features practical skills in R coding, systematic reviews, and theories of qualitative and quantitative analysis.
In the spring of 2020, I taught a communication course for English education majors at Hiroshima University. The course was designed for online learning due to the home confinement period in response to the global pandemic.
This course featured podcasts for project-based learning and speaking practice, sociolinguistic landscape approaches, cultural discussion-oriented authentic listening materials, and inquiry-based oral presentations that were tailored to my students' needs and interests as future educators.
This class will be renewed for 2021.
In the fall of 2020, I led a communication practice course for non-English education majors at Hiroshima University. This course was also designed for online learning as a precautionary measure.
The course's assignments included audio journals and podcasts for project-based learning and speaking and listening practice, and endorsed the use of critical incidents and role plays for intercultural understanding.
An exclusive feature of this course is an experiential and reflective learning-based intercultural teamwork simulation activity, and evaluations were made with a final project that integrated the four skills with a unit on intercultural competence from an authentic textbook for Japanese learners of English.
This class will be renewed for 2021.
I am very excited to work on this new course! I am planning it for the Fall of 2021.
