Superintendent Henry Anderson of the Marvell-Elaine School District shares how he and his staff have prepared for the 2020-2021 academic year during a pandemic. Marvell-Elaine School District is a consolidated district serving 350 students. Located in Phillips County, Arkansas the district spans 595 square miles. The district will utilize a hybrid plan to accommodate students from both the Marvell and Elaine areas. Students from the Marvell area will attend on Monday and Wednesday; with students from the Elaine area attending on Tuesday and Thursday. Friday is an enrichment day open to students from both communities. Virtual learning is also an option that over 2/3 of students chose.

As we get closer to the fall, when students would normally be getting ready to return to their physical school buildings, states, districts, and schools are thinking through what school spaces will look like. How will we enforce social distancing? How do we offer supports for students and staff who may be at greater risk? How do we coordinate transportation?
