El sitio arqueológico de Pumamarka está ubicado hacia el lado norte del Parque Arqueológico de Ollantaytambo. No existen muchos indicios concretos del origen del este lugar. Se dice que se construyó para controlar el acceso desde el Antisuyo (una de las regiones del Estado Inca), pero el sitio es demasiado grande para haber tenido sólo está función. Se presume que fue construida por los Ayamarca, etnia que compartía influencias de la cultura altiplánica y que estuvieron en ese lugar antes de las huestes del Inca. Los muros son bastante altos y tiene un muro que rodea a todo el recinto arqueológico. Desde el distrito de Ollantaytambo se camina alrededor de 4 horas.

The archaeological site of Pumamarka is located towards the north side of the Archaeological Park of Ollantaytambo. There are not many explanations of the origin of this place. It is believed to have been built to control access from the Antisuyo (one of the regions of the Inca State), but the site is too big to have had only this function. It is presumed that the Ayamarca built it; an ethnic group that shared influences from the altiplanic culture and that inhabited the area before the Inca army arrived. The walls are quite high and a wall surrounds the entire archaeological site. From the district of Ollantaytambo you walk approximately for 4 hours.
