An interactive art project: HANDbrush

Idea and inspiration

Myron Krueger, the father of virtual reality, considers the computer “acts much as an orchestra conductor controlling the broad relationships while the artist provides the score”.

He invented the concept of responsive environment, which suggests a computer will perceive the actions of the artist and the computer’s displays are able to establish a context at the same time, and also expect the further actions of the artist.

I heard about a theory about human and computer's relationship before during an in-class discussion, that is "if the computer is a creature, will it consider human are creatures with only two fingers (we only need two fingers to press the mouse)?"

Thus I want to try some project that allows us to interact with computer with more immersive experience, especially let the computer to "see" we have more body parts than two fingers.

His works such as Videoplace and Metaplay provides most of the inspirations to me, because his artworks have virtual painting elements, and also use our body as input method directly (without mouse or keyboard as medium between human body and computer).
