Drive to a trailhead in the middle of nowhere. Lace up the Altras or Sauconys or whatever. Climb on Saddle Mountain Rd to 3000 feet and hope the clouds have cleared off to show you the Pacific Ocean below. Descend, switch to quiet backcountry pavement, head for the Honeydew country store for Coca Cola and other essentials. Then back home along King Range Rd.
34 miles, 6500 feet of gain, about 50/50 gravel and pavement. No services aside from the Honeydew store. Are you in?
