DubStream ("we", "the extension") is a Chrome extension that provides real-time AI dubbing of video content. This policy explains what data the extension handles, why, and who it is shared with. We designed DubStream to process the minimum data needed to dub a video and to avoid collecting anything that identifies you personally.
To turn spoken video into dubbed audio, DubStream captures short audio snippets from the active video, or reads on-screen subtitle text when subtitles are available. This content is sent to our processing proxy (hosted on Cloudflare) and forwarded to the following services to produce the dubbed audio:
- Groq (Whisper) — converts speech to text
- DeepL — translates the text
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and/or ElevenLabs — generate the dubbed voice
This content is processed transiently to return the dubbed audio to your browser. We do not build a profile from it and we do not retain your audio or video. The third-party services above process it under their own privacy policies.
To understand how the extension is used and to fix problems, we collect anonymous usage data via Google Analytics 4:
- a random, rotating client identifier (a UUID — not your name, email, or account)
- a random device identifier used to enforce the free daily limit
- the hostname of sites where dubbing is used (e.g. youtube.com) — never the full URL, page path, or your browsing history
- extension version and plan tier (free / pro)
- performance metrics: latency, error rates, and coarse processing counts
We do not send your audio, video, subtitle text, or full page URLs to analytics.
If you fill out the in-app feedback prompt, we receive the star rating, selected tags, and any optional comment you write, so we can improve the product.
Subscriptions are handled by Stripe. We receive a Stripe customer identifier to manage your subscription status. We never see or store your full card details — those are handled entirely by Stripe.
The extension stores your settings, daily usage counters, plan token, and a random device ID locally in Chrome storage. Uninstalling the extension removes this local data.
Cloudflare (proxy hosting), Groq, DeepL, Google Cloud TTS, ElevenLabs, Google Analytics, and Stripe. Each processes data under its own privacy policy.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not store your audio or video content.
- We do not collect your browsing history or full page URLs.
- We do not tie analytics to your name or email.
- You can turn off analytics at any time from the extension's Settings.
- Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored data.
DubStream does not run on major paid streaming platforms (Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, Max, Peacock, Paramount+, Apple TV+).
DubStream is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
