Privacy Policy for Multilingual Pal

This Privacy Policy explains how MultilingualPal ("we") handles your information in our Android and iOS applications.

• Translation privacy at a glance

- Android: Every translation runs entirely on your device using Google ML Kit. The language model downloads once; after that, the text you translate never leaves your device.

- iOS: On iOS 26 and later, supported languages translate on your device. For languages Apple can’t translate on-device, and on iOS 17–25, text is sent to a third-party service (MyMemory) to return a translation.

1. Translation

Your privacy is central to how translation works, and it differs by platform:

- Android: Translations are performed entirely on your device using Google ML Kit. The language model is downloaded once, after which the text you translate never leaves your device and is not sent to us or any third party.

- iOS: On iOS 26 and later, supported languages are translated on your device using Apple’s Translation framework. For languages Apple does not support on-device, and on iOS versions below 26, the text you enter is sent over a secure connection to a third-party translation service (MyMemory, translated.net) solely to return a translation.

We recommend not entering sensitive personal information when translating in cases where a third-party service is used.

2. Image & PDF Text Recognition

Recognizing text from images and PDFs (OCR) is performed entirely on your device — Google ML Kit on Android and Apple Vision on iOS. Your images and PDFs are never uploaded to us or any third party. Any translation of the recognized text then follows the rules in Section 1.

3. Microphone & Speech

If you use voice features, the microphone is accessed only while you are actively recording. We do not store your audio recordings on our servers.

4. Permissions We May Request

- Camera & Photo Library — to capture or select images and PDFs for on-device text recognition.

- Microphone & Speech Recognition — for optional voice features.

- Notifications — for optional daily-word and update reminders.

5. Advertising

We display ads through Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect and use device identifiers — including, on iOS, the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) where you grant permission — to serve and measure ads. On iOS we ask for tracking permission via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency; if you decline, you will still see ads, but they will be non-personalized. Advertising data is governed by Google’s advertising policies.

6. Analytics & Notifications

We use Google Firebase (Analytics, Remote Config, and Cloud Messaging) to understand how the app is used, deliver configuration, and send optional notifications. These services may collect app-usage and device information as described in Google’s privacy documentation.

7. Purchases

Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

8. Third-Party Services

MultilingualPal relies on the following services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

- Google AdMob, Google Firebase, Google ML Kit, Google Play Services (Android)

- Apple (on-device translation, speech, and App Store purchases on iOS)

- MyMemory / translated.net (iOS translation fallback where on-device is unavailable)

- Pexels (background imagery)

9. Data Safety

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties for their own marketing.

10. Children’s Privacy

Our applications do not address anyone under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

11. Security

The security of your information matters to us. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page, and we encourage you to review it periodically.
