Research Experience
Intelligent Assistance System for Visually Impaired People October 2014 ~ June 2020
The applicant along with the research group is dedicated to developing intelligent assistance system for the visually impaired people in their daily life. The applicant focus on computer vision and image processing algorithm in the scenarios of assistive technology, and has achieved inspiring results on traffic intersection navigation and place recognition, etc. Moreover, partial research outcomes have been used in the commercial assistive device “Intoer” [1], which has brought benefits to thousands of users.

Multi-modal visual localization and scene recognition September 2017 ~ June 2020
As the first trial, the real-time key position prediction algorithm is implemented on the wearable assistive device “Intoer”, which was presented at Young Researchers Consortium of ICCHP 2018. Proposed sequence-based multi-modal place recognition algorithm OpenMPR achieved state-of-the-art performance on assistive visual localization. The unified network for place and scene recognition based on panoramic cameras was proposed and utilized on vehicles. Three journal papers and two conference paper were published.
Traffic intersection navigation for visually impaired assistance September 2015 - October 2017
Detecting crosswalks and pedestrian crossing lights is vital in intersection navigation. The proposed detection algorithm achieved robust and real-time performance in challenging scenarios. Two journal papers and one conference paper were published.
Traversable areas and obstacles segmentation based on the RGBD sensor October 2014 – June 2015
The rapid and accurate segmentation of ground and obstacles based on RGB-Depth sensor with IMU was implemented and served as the prototype of assistive device “Intoer”. The project was awarded as one of top-100 graduation papers in Zhejiang University (out of over five thousand papers). One conference paper was published.
The other research experience includes:
@ Personally completed imaging control software for ball cavities
@ Personally completed parametric modeling software for star sensors
@ Completed measurement software for lenses with long focal length
