Keeping your electric stove top in nice clean condition is a great way to extend it life. Make sure that you clean after each use. When cooking and splashing or spills occur falling on another burner that's not on, make sure to wipe it off as soon as possible to prevent it from burning up and causing burning smells. Wipe the coils down with a damp rag about thirty minutes after shutting the burners down.
The burner elements come out very easy. You can see where the coils kind of go in and under the stove top, you can actually lift up the element and pull it out gently. Make sure you unplug the unit before doing this. Also the lid lifts up so you can clean up spills under the stove top.
For glass tops, it is recommended that you use a specific glass cleaner to prevent damaging the surface.
If you notice that a burner element is dim and brightly hot in one spot, the element is soon to short out and you should avoid using it. Replace this element as soon as possible.
