A little about me

Ruby Sopke is a dedicated educator and missionary with a diverse background in education and language. Born and raised in the Philippines, where she experienced firsthand the challenges of communication barriers due to the multitude of dialects, Ruby understands the importance of removing obstacles to learning. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of St. Anthony and has been involved in missionary work since 2005, spreading the Word in various communities.

Ruby's journey led her to South Korea, where she pursued a Master in Public Health at Samyook University while continuing her missionary work. Her passion for teaching ignited during her elementary years when she began sharing stories from the Bible with younger students, fostering a love for storytelling and education. 

Upon moving to the United States in 2013, Ruby started her career as a substitute teacher at Avon Community Schools Corporation before finding her calling at the Indiana School for the Blind. There, she discovered a passion for braille and earned the National Library of Congress Braille Transcriber Certification in 2017. Alongside her professional achievements, Ruby became a US citizen, completed a certification program for Visually Impaired Education through Indiana State University, and embraced motherhood, all in the same year.

Ruby transitioned to teaching blind and visually impaired students in the streamlined setting at Brownsburg Community School District, where blind children are integrated with their sighted peers, fostering inclusive education for all. 

Today, Ruby is a dedicated teacher, and an assistive technology enthusiast, committed to ensuring that no student, especially the visually impaired, is denied their full potential due to communication barriers. Currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership, she exemplifies a lifelong learner dedicated to fostering transformative teaching practices. With her extensive experience and passion for education, Ruby continues to make a difference in the lives of her students, embodying the transformative power of teaching.
