A Love Chapter for an Itinerant Teacher

A rewritten version of 1 Corinthians 13.

Ruby Cereno, TBLV

If I can teach using Braille to those that are blind and I do not have love, I am just teaching them to read a message, but not feel the Message, not allow for images to take flight in their minds.

If I have the gift of leadership, a technique in teaching, and fathom the mysteries and all knowledge to understand the world of blindness and do not have love, they will not see me.

If I give all of my stewardship to serving the blind that I may only flaunt my accomplishments to my peers, and do not have love, I have failed myself.

Teaching is patient, teaching is kind, it is not shortcutting, it is not selfish, and it is not worldly driven.

Teaching does not celebrate my truth, but the truth of the Almighty.

Teaching always provokes, always expands, always enlightens, and always promotes.

Teaching never fails the learner, but the teacher who fails the learner will be forgotten.

For we know if we put ourselves before the student, they will not flourish.

But when God is in the midst of the lesson, the message will hold.

Because I am sighted, I teach like I am sighted, but when I reason just like the blind, I become part of their world and become their teacher.

For when I see my reflection in a mirror, I am compelled that each of my blind students see their reflection in the image of Christ.
