Solving Big Cubes by Logic
4.d. Solving the centers of the last 2 faces
At this stage, commutators are required to solve the centers of the last two faces. We will utilize the up layer (U) and the parallel middle layers for the "swap" and "undo swap" movements. The inner layers and the layers perpendicular to U will be utilized for the "back and forth" movements.
Refer to the example in Figure 4.9. In this scenario, there are only 2 center pieces that need to be swapped. However, since a commutator always moves 3 pieces, one of the swaps must involve pieces of the same color. The arrows indicate the specific commutation to be performed. A possible commutator for this situation is demonstrated in Figure 4.10. Simply click on the play button (▷) to observe the animation.
If there are grouped pieces, it is possible to commute a block of pieces as if they were "glued" together. Just ensure to maintain symmetry and carefully execute the movements.
