Cyber Bullying
Cyber bullying or cyber harassment is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. Cyber bullying and cyber harassment are also known as online bullying. It has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers, as the digital sphere has expanded and technology has advanced
Sexual Harassement
Sexual harassment is any unwanted sexual behavior that makes someone feel upset, scared, offended or humiliated, or is meant to make them feel that way. Sexual harassment is a type of of sexual violence – the phrase we use to describe any sexual activity or act that happened without consent.
Description
All the students were gathered in the lecture hall to attend the session. It was a 50 minutes long lecture. We were taught about the drastic outcomes of cyber bullying. The instructor presented us with slides highlighting the importance of privacy and shedding light on some cases occurred due to cyber bullying. The teacher then interacted with the class asking them if have faced similar issue in their life.
Feelings
Throughout the lecture I felt very cognizant as cyber bullying and sexual harassment is a major issue in Pakistan. A LOT OF PEOPLE FACE IT ON DAILY BASIS. My feelings about cyber bullying are a mix of concern, sadness, and frustration. Concern arises from knowing how widespread and impactful cyber bullying can be, especially among vulnerable populations like teenagers.
Evaluation
Everyone attending the lecture had multiple queries regarding cyber bullying and harassment, so the lecture came out to be quite productive. As it causes mental health issues, increased stress and anxiety, depression, acting out violently, and low self-esteem, it has to be stopped. It is a direct torture to one's mind and health. One might end up having suicidal thoughts or even end up committing it. It is true said:
"Harassment is a true form of terrorism"
Any form of harassment has to be stopped because it leads to absenteeism, poor morale, loss of focus, and legal consequences.
Conclusion
It turned out to be fairly productive overall because everyone discussed all the components of the session with the teacher and their other students.
Bullying and harassment pose a serious obstacle to creating a positive, productive working environment. This kind of behavior creates a toxic and tense environment, and if it goes unchecked, it sends a message of acceptance.
ACTION
As a digital citizen I'll make sure to be there for someone who is facing this issue and try to resolve t whether it is by reporting or by providing him the required support. Against the cyber bullying, the following actions need to be taken:
Report the incident:
This may involve informing the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or social media sites about the occurrence.
Provide support:
If the victim is someone you know, let them know you are there for them and offer your support.
Speak out against cyber bullying:
Make use of social media and other channels to denounce the practice and spread awareness of the problem
Case of Cyber Bullying
On January 1, 2017, the body of Naila Rind was found hanging from a ceiling fan in Marvi Hostel Block A’s Room No. 36 at the university. Khaskheli, who lived in a society close to the hostel, blackmailed the victim by sending pictures and videos causing immense agony to Rind. The girl ended her life by hanging from a ceiling fan. She was a resident of Shahdadkot.
During the probe, investigation officer Tahir Mughal learnt that the accused had blackmailed the student in various ways for not having illicit relations with him. Judge Nadeem Ahmed Akhund of ATC No. 1 also handed him down three more years of imprisonment and a fine of 25,000 under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act, 2016. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will be imprisoned for another six months. Khaskheli was free on bail and was taken into custody after the announcement of the verdict.
Case of Identity Theft
Jane, a university student, often shares updates on social media. One day, she notices strange activity on her accounts: friends report receiving odd messages and seeing suspicious product promotions. Jane realizes her identity has been stolen.
An imposter has hacked her account, changed the password, and is using her photos and contacts to scam others. They send direct messages asking for personal information and post misleading links.
Jane quickly contacts the social media platform's support, providing proof of her identity. While waiting for resolution, she warns friends through other means and secures her other accounts. After a few days, she regains control of her account. Jane then strengthens her security settings, enabling two-factor authentication and becoming more cautious about online sharing.
Case of Harassing
Alex, a high school student, starts receiving harassing messages from an anonymous classmate. The messages are mean-spirited and frequent, making Alex feel anxious and unsafe. Alex decides to report the harassment to a trusted teacher, who takes immediate action. The school administration investigates and identifies the harasser. The school provides Alex with support and ensures the harasser faces appropriate consequences. This experience highlights the importance of speaking up against harassment and the need for a supportive community.
