Trip
From Paris to Fontainebleau station:
You need to take the train from Paris Gare de Lyon, RER R ("Transilien"). They depart every 30 minutes, generally at xxh16 and xxh46 and may have 3 destinations (Montereau, Montargis or Laroche-Migennes). Double-check before boarding the train that it stops at Fontainebleau (in rare cases, trains towards Laroche-Migennes do not). Generally, the train towards Fontainebleau leave from platforms I-J-K-L-M-N. The train trip takes 40 minutes and stops 2 times (Melun, Bois-le-Roi) before stopping at Fontainebleau (stop: Fontainebleau Avon).
The ticket is 5€ and can be purchased anywhere in Paris and includes the transit from a metro station towards Gare de Lyon. You can buy the ticket in any metro station on the white machines that distribute tickets. In the initial menu, select "Iles de France" and then you will be able to type Fontainebleau and purchase the ticket.
From Fontainebleau station to Ecole des Mines:
You can either take the bus number 3401, whose stop is the closest from the exit of the train. Another option, which is very nice in case of sunny weather, is to walk towards Fontainebleau city center through the Castle Garden (example of the itinerary here). The closest bus stop is at St Honoré, in rue de France (2 minutes walk from the venue (see map above).
From the airport (Charles de Gaule) to Paris Gare de Lyon:
From the airport, you can immediately purchase a ticket to Fontainebleau. On the white machine, select "Iles de France" and type in Fontainebleau. Otherwise if you want to stop in Paris, just purchase a ticket towards Paris.
To get to Paris, the RER B (blue line) will take you to Paris Center and to Paris Gare du Nord or Chatelet les Halles. From there, if you need to go to Paris Gare de Lyon, you can change to the line D at Paris Gare du Nord (towards the south: two stops : Chatelet - Gare de Lyon) or change for line A (red) at Chatelet towards the East for 1 stop. When you get to Paris Gare de Lyon, you need to go up (follow "Grandes Lignes" which will get you to the surface level where all the trains are leaving). Generally, the train towards Fontainebleau leave from platforms I-J-K-L-M-N.
