ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Chemical Engineering (NIT Rourkela) has been an epitome of teaching and learning process ever since its inception. Over these wonderful years of its existence, the department serves as a beacon of knowledge and wisdom. Bestowed with erudite faculties and disciplined staffs (present and past), the department has come a long way from a humble beginning to a force to reckon with. The shinning glory of our students’ batch after batch is a testament to that. Located at a corner inside a sprawling campus, the department has undergone architectural changes and expansions to meet ever increasing demands, arising out of increased UG, PG and Ph.D. student strengths, starting of new specializations, increased new faculty strengths and staffs. The transition from REC to NIT was a watershed moment, opening better avenues, inducing competitive mindsets in all stakeholders. Spearheaded by experienced faculties of the department, sooner the department saw a change in aura by bringing endorsements in the form of research, consultancy and industrial projects, adding funds to the institute coffer. With high impact publications, the department saw a meteoric rise in number of research scholars pursuing Ph.D. Development of state-of-the-art infrastructure has been notable, receiving plaudits from the peers. With increased funding from the institute and the ministry, the department has been in continuous rise. With increased number of conferences, workshops, webinars, etc., the department foresees itself as a flag-bearer of technical education at a bigger pedestal. Periodic successful accreditation from National agencies, academic audits, curriculum updates in unison with industrial requirements have been our USP. We as a group of young and vibrant faculties with great camaraderie aspire to steer the department in correct direction and would adapt ourselves in changing circumstances. Shunning passivity and moving ahead with an accelerating zeal is going to be our motto. Following well laid down protocols and able guidance, the department held great potential to address contemporary socio-economic-technical-cultural issues at both National and International forums. The pedigree of our graduates has been our strength and many years down the line, every nook and corner of the department would still be bustling with their voices, raring to match the feat of their predecessors whilst the department still hold the fort.
