By Air

1. The nearest airport to IIT Kharagpur is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata), located approximately 140 km from the institute. From the airport, you may reach IIT Kharagpur by train or direct cab. 

By Train (From Howrah)

• From Kolkata Airport, travel to Howrah Junction by airport taxi, app-based cab, direct bus, or metro.

• From Howrah Junction, board a train to Kharagpur Junction.

• IIT Kharagpur is about 6 km from Kharagpur Junction. Auto-rickshaws and taxis are readily available outside the station to reach the campus. (App cabs are not available here.)

Kolkata Airport → Howrah Junction → Kharagpur Junction → IIT Kharagpur

By Train

Kharagpur is well connected by rail to all major cities in India. Participants may choose either Kharagpur Junction or Hijli Railway Station, depending on their train.

Option 1: Kharagpur Junction (Recommended)

• Kharagpur Junction is one of the largest railway junctions in India and is served by most long-distance trains.

• The station is approximately 6 km from IIT Kharagpur.

• Auto-rickshaws and taxis are readily available outside the station to reach the institute. (App cabs are not available here.)

Option 2: Hijli Railway Station

• Some trains also stop at Hijli Railway Station, which is located approximately 1 km from the IIT Kharagpur campus.

• Auto-rickshaws are available outside the station, and the institute can typically be reached within 5–10 minutes. (App cabs are not available here.)

By Road

1. Kharagpur is well connected by road to Kolkata and nearby cities via national highways. Taxis and buses are easily available.

2. The nearest major bus stop to Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is the Kharagpur Bus Stand, located at a  distance  of 6.5 km from the campus and offers convenient access by local transport.
