Qasima

Qasima means business. Their social media and web presences are carefully curated, and their fan base has organized branches in dozens of Central Java towns. Girls in Qasima range from 7th grade to 34. Their main manager is a woman, and the founder of the group is also a woman. Qasima's songs tend to use more Javanese than Indonesian or Arabic, and their fashion choices highlight a more modernized but still whimsical vision of femininity.

Qasima shows begin with sholawat, songs in Arabic and in their case also Javanese invoking Islamic prayers. Their songs incorporate a distinctive Javanese flair, imitating the sounds of gamelan on their keyboards. After the sholawat portion, the show opens up to requests for dangdut and campursari songs. Qasima is adept in the business of performance and its members are confident and enthusiastic. Some of them hope to make careers out of music, while the majority are either already enrolled in university for science degrees or plan on doing so.
