2019 Garden

We have finished our harvesting for the 2019 growing season! We want to give a huge shout out to everyone who woke up early to be a harvest helper and to everyone who tried something new, even if you weren't sure you would like it.

Plump Halloween pumpkins

A bounty of beautiful green beans

Sky-high sunflowers

Despite an unusually chilly spring with some very late snowfall, our 2019 garden is finally taking off. Each student planted a seedling during healthy schools week which they transplanted into our garden beds before the end of the school year. See the lists below for all the yummy things currently growing in our garden. Things we are especially excited about this year:

  • This is our most ambitious year to date, with three dozen different kinds of veggies and flowers in the ground! We are going to have an outstanding garden tasting with the students this fall.
  • Last season's sunflowers re-seeded themselves and we now have dozens of new sunflower plants reaching for the sky
  • The constant late spring rainfall has helped everything to take root and thrive, especially in the perennial border bed where we have some beautiful flowers. Once these plants are firmly established we should be able to enjoy them for many years to come.
  • We are trying some new trellising systems this year for our tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash which should not only save space but also encourage healthier plants by getting the foliage away from the ground.

Thank you to all our summer garden helpers for taking care of this beautiful space. We're so lucky to have your support.
