Student Research Office Hours Fall 2024: Tu, Th 3:30-4:30
(Except on EA or TREE seminar days, check calendar page for availability)
Appointment required: please contact me for a link to the appointment signup page
Requirements for Student Research Office Hour:
1. Sign up at least 24 hours in advanceĀ
2. You must provide a written summary of what you want to discuss. For brief or narrow things (e.g. specific metrics questions), <1 page will do. For more substantial discussions, 2-3 pages is probably better (what is the basic economic question, what data are you using or would you like to use, what techniques are you using or would like to use, what challenges you are facing). I pledge to read this summary carefully and think about it if you send it at least 24 hours before our meeting. If I receive this less than 24 hours in advance, I will try my best but can't make any promises.
Here is a nice description from John Asker at UCLA of how to write such a summary:

You should also read Jesse Shapiro's "Four steps to an Applied Micro Paper" and "How to give an applied micro talk." While both of these discuss later steps in the research process (writing a paper and giving a presentation, respectively), the ideas apply from the beginning.
