Requirements for Student Research Office Hour:
1. Sign up at least 72 hours in advance for a 30-minute slotÂ
2. You must send me a written summary of what you want to discuss, at least 48 hours in advance. For brief or narrow things (e.g. specific metrics questions), <1 page will do. For more substantial discussions, 2-3 pages is probably better (what is the basic economic question, what data are you using or would you like to use, what techniques are you using or would like to use, what challenges you are facing).

You should also read Jesse Shapiro's "Four steps to an Applied Micro Paper" and "How to give an applied micro talk." While both of these discuss later steps in the research process (writing a paper and giving a presentation, respectively), the ideas apply from the beginning.
