Scott County Schools provides a Safe School Helpline. Students, parents, teachers, and staff can use the helpline to report anything that threatens the safety of our schools. The line is available 24/7 and reports can be made anonymously by phone, text, or online.
INFORMATION ON THE SAFE SCHOOL HELPLINE CAN BE FOUND BY CLICKING --> HERE <--
Reports can include anything that might threaten the safety of schools in Scott County. Examples include bullying, drugs/alcohol, theft, thoughts of suicide, violence, or weapons. More information is available on the Scott County Schools website (www.scott.kyschools.us). At the bottom of each school and district page, you will see the Safe School Helpline link. As always, we encourage students and parents to reach out to teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure the safety of our schools and the well-being of students.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
There should be no wireless/Bluetooth earbuds on students during the school day. If students have these devices with them they should be locked in their lockers along with their cell phones. Students should not have either of these items on them during the school day. Phones and earbuds are creating distractions in the classroom and any student discovered with these items in class are subject to having them confiscated by the teacher until the end of the school day.
EARLY MORNING
Did you know that a before-school, early-drop-off program is available for your use at RSMS? Students can be dropped off at school as early as 7:10 to play basketball, socialize, study or read. The cost for this program is $6.00 daily or $25.00 for the week, in addition to an annual registration fee of $35. Additionally, these payments are tax-deductible on your itemized tax return. Students in early morning program must enter the building through the single gym door that goes directly into the gym.
If you are interested in using this program for your student daily or as needed, please email for additional information.
STUDENT FEES
Annual student fee is $35. A check or money order payable to RSMS should be turned in to their Peace teacher as soon as possible. You may also pay on myschoolbucks.com or sign and return the fee waiver letter if you have qualified for free or reduced meals.
FREE & REDUCED MEALS
Royal Spring is a CEP school which means that breakfast and lunch is free. Parents/Guardians should still apply for free & reduced meals each year in order to qualify the school so we can continue to receive them. You may apply online or request a paper copy if you have no internet access.
ATTENDANCE
As stated in our agenda, “Students are considered tardy if they do not arrive in their PEACE class by 8:30 a.m. or if they leave school earlier than 3:30.” The regular school calendar allows students to be off during the summer months as well as holidays, fall break, spring break, Christmas break and teacher professional days. Therefore, absences for family vacations when school is in session will be recorded as “unexcused.” Since classroom time is a high correlate for learning, parents are strongly encouraged to plan vacations around the school calendar. . Students may not be signed out to anyone who is not already on their pick-up list.
Notes shall include phone numbers to assist attendance personnel in verifying information. All notes of excuse shall be turned in to the attendance office within ten (10) school days of the student’s return to school. If a note is not received within ten (10) days after returning to school, the absence or tardy will be considered unexcused. The principal/designee shall determine whether the absence is excused. The following are valid reasons for an excused absence:
Child was ill (may be covered by parent note or Dr. note)
Death or severe illness in immediate family (covered by parent notes)
Religious holiday
Court appearance (please attach excuse)
Kentucky State Fair (limited to one day per KRS)
Departure of parent/guardian called to active military duty (military form required to be completed from school)
Visitation with parent while on military duty stationed outside country (school form required to be completed)
TRANSPORTATION
Car Riders should not get in or out of the car in an area other than the drop-off line in the morning or afternoon. This includes the parking lot. Additionally, students may not exit the building at dismissal to walk out into the parking lot without a parent. This is not a safe area at this time. Morning car riders should be ready to disembark when their vehicle comes to a stop along the curb in front of the school. Please exit your car from the right hand side closest to the building for safety. Drivers should wait for the vehicle ahead of them move. Please do not drop out of line to pass slower cars. This is a safety issue for everyone.
Our school doors open at 8:10. If your student is not part of our early morning program, he/she should not be dropped off until 8:10 or after. Students should not get out of the car in the morning until teachers and staff are outside and the buses have started unloading.
Bus Passes: If the student is riding the bus with another student, that student must be in our building and both students must bring a note from their parent, with the bus number on the note and the time this will be effective (one day, as needed, for school year, etc.). Bus passes should be brought to the office first thing in the morning.
