Dr. Jennifer Long (Anthropology, MacEwan University) began conducting participant observation on the role of whiteness in the community during the summer of 2019. In 2020, a team of student researchers & Dr. Long conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews from July and September 2020. Dr. Long continues to conduct online interviews (2021, 2022) with willing participants about white racial identity and whiteness in the context of Edmonton, AB and the surrounding area.

The target audience for this work is White individuals living in and around the Edmonton area.
However, any interested participants living in and around Edmonton - including Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour - are welcomed to participate. Please note, the interview questions include topics that touch on racism. If you are a racialized individual and want to participate, the researcher will work with the participant ahead of time to build a set of questions that is acceptable for the participant. BIPOC participants will not be asked specific questions about past experiences of racism.
