I am an Associate Professor at the School of Occupational and Public Health at Toronto Metropolitan University and an Associate Professor (status only) at Dalla Lana, School of Public Health, University of Toronto. I started my career as a clinical pediatric occupational therapist, treating and consulting for children with neurological impairments in homes, rehabiliation settings, hospitals and schools.
I later trained as an epidemiologist at the University of Toronto at the Institute of Medical Science. My area of expertise is in unintentional injury prevention with an equity lens in Canada and internationally. I have been involved in research related to sport, playgrounds, concussions, road traffic and car occupant injuries, with a focus on child and youth. Most recently, my research focus has been on active transportation and vulnerable road user (pedestrian and cyclist) injuries, in urban environments as a public health issue.
My applied research involves multidisciplinary partners including those from academia, hospitals, not-for-profit organizations, the private sector, school boards and all levels of the government, thereby ensuring my research is put into practise.
I hold several Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grants related to implementing safe active transportation policy and the evaluation of new road design modifications such as cycle tracks, reduced speed limits and automated speed enforcement.I have recently been recognized with the 2026 Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP), Mid-Career Trailblazer Research and Evaluation Award, as well as the 2026 Toronto Metropolitan University Knowledge Mobilization and Engagement Scholarly Research and Creativity (SRC) Award.

What type of injuries are occurring? What is the severity of these injuries?
Where is the burden of injuries, both on a general level in terms of country and region, but also in terms of specific locations?
When do these injuries occur, considering year, time of day, season?
Why are these injuries occurring?
How do we measure the burden of injuries, considering both accurate numerator and denominator data? How do we prevent these injuries? How do we evaluate interventions to ensure they are evidence-based? How do we ensure these interventions are implemented? How do we measure success?
