What is Rotaract?

With an international network of 10,698 clubs in more than 180 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract’s 203,298 members are young people ages 18 and older developing leadership and professional skills, exchanging ideas with community leaders, and having fun through service.

In communities worldwide, Rotary and Rotaract members work side by side to take action through service. From big cities to rural villages, Rotaract is changing communities like yours.

When looking at its history, we find out that Rotaract has evolved quickly in its short but dynamic existence. In the early 1960s, Rotary clubs around the world began to sponsor university youth groups as community service projects. Some years later, in 1968 Rotaract was approved as an official program for Rotary clubs.

Rotaract Club Rose Belle

Our club is one of the two clubs found in the southern region of Mauritius. We have been working together with other organisations and our surroundings for the past 10 years and are proud to say that today, we are known for leading the change we want to see in our society.

The Rotaract Club of Rose-Belle also has a twin club the Rotaract Club of Ivandry based in Madagascar with which multiple projects are helping across both countries.

The Rotaract Club of Rose Belle was chartered on 24 January 2011 and this year, we are celebrating our 10th Chartered Anniversary.

Our Initiatives

Christmas with Atelier Sa Nou Vize

On December 14, 2020, we spent a day filled with dance, music, and laughter with the kids of Atelier Sa Nou Vize during which we decorated a Christmas tree with handmade ornaments crafted by our members and the kids. We ended the day with lunch and gift distribution 🎁🎄🥳

Cigarette Butt Bin

At the Rotaract Club of Rose Belle, we believe in being proactive. During the World Clean Up day 2020, we noticed a considerable amount of cigarette butts in the area of Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital’s bus station. We immediately took the necessary permission to fix a cigarette butt bin. The purpose of the container was to primarily sensibilise smokers to avoid littering the area with cigarette butts. The bin was also mounted with the End Polio logo to create awareness on Rotary’s mission to eradicate Polio.

Bringing ICT Closer

This pandemic has taught us the importance of technology. We cannot deny that ICT has eased our way through this chaos, from holding conferences to online classes. Our survey showed that adults with no or little ICT knowledge have limited access to life-saving information. In line with the International Literacy Day 2020 and one of the Rotary International's focus areas, the Rotaract club of Rose Belle launched the "Bringing ICT Closer" project. This project provided a platform for the Southern Handicap Association's parents to understand the basics of ICT and help their children at home.

Sanitary Pad Dispenser

In our endeavor to make menstruation a No Taboo Talk and empowering young women to feel safer and more supported during menstruation, the Rotaract Club of Rose Belle mounted and fixed a Sanitary Pad Dispenser at Winsor College on World Rotaract Day. We also followed up by talking with the institution's students to create more awareness around menstrual hygiene and how to use their dispenser in the best way possible.

Project Swacch

Rotaract Club of Medicrew (India) and Rotaract Club of Mysore East (India) collaborated with Rotaract Club of Rose-Belle to develop Project Swacch, an interactive session about menstruation alternatives to Sanitary Napkins on 22 November 2020.
