Back through the Buller Gorge again. Just so much scenery to take in...
...including the 'T-Rex' tree. :-)
A memorial plaque to the first European to find a land route through to the West Coast. Paringa is just near Haast, so about 1100kms return to Nelson.
We stopped at this little town for coffee, and someone had left a piano on the footpath for anyone to play. We enjoyed tunes with our morning tea.
We spent a couple of days in Nelson meeting up with an old friend, then on to Blenheim via Picton.
We decided to take a slightly longer but more scenic route today via part of the Marlborough Sounds.
This just seems to go on for ever. Around every corner, there's another coastal vista.
<Above Left> New Zealand grows a LOT of timber. This yard was just around the point from Picton.
<Above> The port of Picton. This is the South Island terminal for the Interisland ferries from Wellington.
<Left & Below> The Marlborough area produces some of New Zealand's best wines (mainly white). It would have been churlish for us not to try some. ;-)
Blenheim also is the home of Sir Peter Jackson's Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre. So as not to make the travel blog into an aviation blog, this is covered separately here.
