Day 1
Brisbane - Girraween Nat Pk 260kms
Girraween National Park is situated on the Qld/NSW border about 250kms South-West from Brisbane and at an elevation of about 900m/3000ft above sea level. Consequently it gets cold in Winter and has frosts and the occasional snow fall. Fortunately, we were there at the end of Summer, and were looking forward to cooler conditions that we'd been having in Brisbane. Girraween, meaning 'place of flowers', is a park of massive granite outcrops, large angular tors, and precariously balanced boulders. We hope to go back in the Spring one year as the wildflowers are supposed to be really beautiful.
There were two reasons for our visit; one was to check out how the van was going to perform in a place with no power or water available prior to our NT adventure, the other being a 3 day photographic workshop that I'd treated myself to.
