Welcome to this year's Ross Rambles.
This is currently a work in progress as we have completed a small trip (4 days in Girraween Nat Pk) and used that as a shakedown test before setting off on our big trip for the year to the Top End. For the Non-Australians out there, the Top End is generally considered to be the northern section of the Northern Territory. It is tropical and has (depending on who you ask) either two or six seasons. The six seasons are Banggarreng, Yegge, Wurrgeng, Gurrung, Gunumeleng and Gudjeuk, and are used by the local Aboriginal tribes to note the passing of events that relate to hunting, gathering and fishing. Non-Aboriginal folks just have two seasons: The Wet and The Dry. The Wet is usually November to April with The Dry being May to October. If we have to refer to seasons in the Top End, we'll stick to these two.
This year, The Wet started early and has run into overtime, causing problems with travel plans as roads that should be open by now are still firmly shut. At the time I'm writing this, we plan to go to as many of our planned spots as possible on the way North, and hope that the places we missed will be accessible by the time we head home.
As we'll be trying to add to this blog as we travel, there may be periods where we are nowhere near either WiFi or mobile phone reception, so updates may be a little infrequent at times. Don't worry, we'll still be enjoying ourselves but will be unable to make you jealous pass on our adventures.
