I'm currently a freshman in Leonardtown high school and am studying engineering at the Forest Career And Tech Center. The career I've decided to pursue is a mechanical engineer in the military field. What prompted me to pursue this career is that I've always liked knowing how things work. I like knowing mechanics from the AI for an in-game enemy, to how fuel is transformed into energy in a car engine. I decided to pursue this career around the time I started getting out of middle school, since I realized I only had around 4 years to get my life together and plan for my future.
While I'm only a freshman and haven’t taken many classes to prepare me for such a thing, I am taking ATEx engineering, MET, and CADD which are all extremely useful for such a career. I’ve not had the opportunity to take any extra courses of study for engineering, however I plan to take the full 2 year engineering program at the Forest Career Tech Center. I have learned many math skills required for the problem of problem solving that comes with engineering including the basics of algebra, volume calculation, and other mathematical skills that are required to go into a field of engineering.
I've participated in track and cross country at my old school; Pinecrest St. rose, along with cross country at leonardtown middle. These activities have given me the skills of never giving up and following through in your course of action. Outside of school I’ve only done some scouting and visits to factories and other such things, but some of these skills would majorly help me with my goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. Because I'm underaged and can't work I sadly have no work experience.
After high school I plan to take a year off of life to get a simple job and just live without the stress of study. After that year I will go into the military for 5 years as a member of the branch that gives me the most college benefits, most likely the navy. While I'm unsure of whether I will attend college and then a trade school or just a college, I plan to take some sort of formal engineering program. After completing my engineering education I will go either back to the military as a mechanical engineer or be a contractor for the government, as I have no plans of working in civilian mechanical engineering, as that is “no fun.” While my plans may change, I intend to stay on this course no matter the hardships, and won't be getting married until I'm in the workforce.
While my career is more for personal gain, I plan on giving back to charity and doing work to better the lives of all citizens through further militia development. My plan to work for the military will help better the technology of the world and help save soldiers from combat. I will hopefully have a positive impact through my actions in the military and engineering, and pray that I can complete my goals.
