Based on the idea of Jane McGonigal's "World Without Oil" Alternate Reality Game, this project is our "real play" as well as "role play" entry into the exciting game of living as if oil were no more.
T.H. and Enas Culhane live off grid in the Rosebud Continuum "off-grid-village demonstration area" in a 40 foot fifth wheel RV by collecting food waste from restaurants and events and transforming it into biogas and biofertilizer that they use for cooking, heating water and absorbtion refrigeration and to generate electricity to supplement what they get from their photovoltaic panels.
They use two forms of solar energy battery storage. The first is deep cycle metal-acid batteries. The second is biomethane storage.
Shower and toilet "wastes" ("grey water and black water") are collected in a biodigester to provide more gas and liquid fertilizer. A recycling shower keeps fuel and water use to a bare minimum while providing long luxulrious showers.... no 1 minute "sailor showers" for us!
To "Be the Change You Want to See in the World" as Gandhi challenged us,
"Be the Nexus"
