To Preserve Culture and Engage Community Through Sustainability Education and Development
The vision of the Rosebud Continuum is to be a center for Global Sustainability Education and Research through community developed environmental initiatives and partners in ecological stewardship. Our programs center around Reclamation Ecology, Agroforestry, Regenerative Agriculture, Aquaponics, Biodigesters, Renewable Energy, Water Resource Management, Sustainable Food Production, Ecotourism and recognizing Waste as a Resource. We endeavor to be caretakers of the earth through the convergence of modern, innovative development and by honoring indigenous practices that have been imparted through ancient tradition.
A continuum is something that keeps on going, changing as time goes by. The Rosebud Continuum has no foreseeable end, but instead will provide a place for each improvement to morph into the next one and for every person to help the next. For every group that is helped, there will be another group that has needs. We will always be striving to improve our environment, and to spread the knowledge.
The Rosebud Continuum can help you with these questions and more!
So many people have concerns about our environment, and just don’t know what individually they can do about it. At the Rosebud Continuum, we hope to give everyone an opportunity to learn how to help in whatever way best suits them. There is no concern or question too small or insignificant, nor a problem too large that we can’t work on it together. No question you may have will be taken lightly. We welcome everyone, whether you have been environmentally conscious for years and have lots to share, or you don’t know how to recycle and just want to get started there. We at Rosebud think that everyone is valuable and has knowledge to share, even if you don’t know it yet!
Rosebud is intended to be a cooperative effort. We believe that “knowledge is power”, and that “together we can”! We don’t care about your political or religious beliefs, we only care that you believe that we can all work toward a healthier lifestyle and planet. Basically, we don’t care about our differences, we care about similarities….Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ. “Sioux Lakota language , meaning we are all related.”
Rosebud provides an outreach research center for professors and students from the University of South Florida College of Global Sustainability who conduct tests and try out new ideas while improving on old ones. They will welcome your ideas and your help, and will share all the knowledge obtained and the obstacles they are trying to overcome. Maybe YOU will be the person to come up with an idea to help them, and help the world!
As we all grow together, we hope to be adding many features that you can help with and learn from…cooperative gardens, edible landscaping, Florida native plants for all soil types, solar and wind energy, and we will ALWAYS share what we know, and hope that you will, too. We have bio-digesters and are working to make them feasible for businesses and individuals. Don’t know what a bio-digester is? Come on out and find out for yourself!
We hope to offer a multitude of classes in the months to come, including but not limited to Florida native landscaping, beekeeping, composting, DIY projects like how to build your own bio-digester, and more.
Well, in the case of Rosebud Continuum, there is a lot in the name!
The Rosebud name resulted from the Bishop family’s long entrenched desire to be able to return to the Dakotas and bring assistance to the indigenous people of that area, including the Rosebud Indian Reservation, the place of Sonny Bishop’s birth. The indigenous people existed in peace with Mother Earth for generations, believing that the land is sacred, and it is our desire to work in conjunction with the First Nations to bring about healing.
One of our mission goals is to move society "across the chasm" through "social proof". We are "innoventors" and "early adopters" but we DON'T want to stay on the "scarcity" side of the chasm on this graph of the "Accelerating Diffusion of Innovation". We want the "other 84%" to join us as quickly as possible. We don't want to be "SPECIAL".
"The Rosebud Continuum is a dynamic, ever evolving nexus between the best practices of our many pasts and traditional wisdoms and the exciting synergies that are emerging as we apply our dedication to sustainability and education to the creation of a desirable future, with liberty and justice for all. At Rosebud we seek to demonstrate and inspire so that visitors and volunteers can contribute to the widening solution space that can realistically tackle our individual and environmental health and biodiversity conservation challenges. Rosebud is a place where ordinary folks and families can feel empowered to "try this at home" and serves as a resource for communities and neighborhoods and individual households seeking to wean themselves off of dysfunctional systems and instead learn "systems thinking" in the human food/energy/water nexus and wildlife preservation that resolve conflicts and lead to harmonious outcomes."
