Having lived in Ottawa for 10 years, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the many services, programs, and opportunities this city offers at different stages of my life. I’ve participated in summer camps, volunteered throughout the community, and worked a variety of jobs. These experiences have given me a firsthand understanding of both what Ottawa does well and where it falls short for young people.
Throughout my life, I’ve seen the barriers that prevent youth from fully participating in and succeeding within our community. Now, as a student at Carleton University, I’ve met countless students and friends who continue to face challenges with housing, transportation, employment, and affordability. Youth are overlooked when decisions are made.
I want to create a platform that advocates for policies and opportunities that empower Ottawa’s youth, from ensuring every child can play safely in their neighbourhood to creating networking events and career development opportunities tailored to young people’s interests and career goals. Most importantly, I want to hear directly from youth of all ages and advocate for what they tell us they need, rather than deciding for them.
I want to help build a city that takes greater responsibility for supporting its young people by strengthening the social services, resources, and opportunities they need to grow, succeed, and thrive. The youth should be able to play, study, explore and live without having to worry if they’ll be able to afford housing one day or if they will get a job. My commitment is to turn ideas into action by working to implement meaningful, lasting change that will allow the youth from all ages to live without concern for their future.
