At Roots & Rights Foundation, we recognize that a healthy environment is essential for the well-being of rural communities. Environmental degradation, deforestation, poor waste management, and the impact of climate change disproportionately affect vulnerable populations in villages. Our environmental mission is to educate, engage, and empower rural citizens to protect and restore their natural surroundings, ensuring sustainability for future generations.
Our specific objectives include:
We aim to create awareness among rural communities, school children, and youth about climate change, water conservation, biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable living through campaigns, workshops, and interactive programs.
We organize regular tree plantation drives in villages, schools, and public spaces to restore green cover, prevent soil erosion, and improve air quality. Our goal is to promote the idea of “One Person, One Tree” in every panchayat we work in.
We aim to build awareness and systems for solid waste segregation, composting, and reduction of plastic use. We actively support “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” and collaborate with Gram Panchayats to maintain clean and healthy rural environments.
Through Jal Chaupals and water-saving education, we encourage rainwater harvesting, kitchen wastewater recycling, and the protection of local ponds and handpumps from contamination.
We aim to promote clean cooking, solar lighting, and energy-efficient practices among rural households to reduce dependence on firewood and fossil fuels.
We plan to develop model “Green Villages” where sustainable farming, water harvesting, clean energy, and community-led conservation practices are integrated. These villages will act as learning hubs for other rural areas.
We will launch the “Har School, Har Ped” initiative, turning government schools into green campuses with herbal gardens, compost pits, and nature clubs that train children as “Climate Champions.”
Our team will mobilize youth and SHG women to lead plastic-free drives, creating cloth bag banks, promoting reusable items, and organizing village-level plastic collection and awareness events.
We aim to set up village-level composting and recycling units to convert organic waste into manure. These units will generate local employment and demonstrate circular economy principles in practice.
We plan to distribute solar lamps, solar street lights, and clean cookstoves in power-deprived or energy-poor villages. This will reduce indoor air pollution and improve women’s and children’s health and safety.
We will use street plays, puppet shows, eco-melas, and short videos in local dialects to communicate critical messages on environmental laws, water protection, and everyday eco-friendly practices in engaging formats.
We plan to train rural youth and college students as “Climate Leaders”, equipping them with knowledge of environmental policies, green technologies, and advocacy skills to drive change in their own communities.
Our environmental programs are rooted in community participation, indigenous knowledge, and practical solutions. We believe that empowering rural people to become stewards of their environment is the most powerful path to ecological and social justice.
