Children develop speech and language skills along a general timeline, known as developmental milestones. These milestones include learning to produce speech sounds clearly (articulation), understanding what others say (receptive language), using words and sentences to express thoughts (expressive language), and speaking smoothly without frequent disruptions (fluency). A child may benefit from speech therapy if they are difficult to understand, use fewer words than expected for their age, struggle to follow directions, have trouble forming complete sentences, or show signs of frustration when trying to communicate. While every child develops at their own pace, consistent difficulty in these areas may indicate a need for additional support.
We use evidence-based practices (EBP), informal evaluation methods, parent interviews, and clinical judgment to help determine whether your little one has articulation, language, or fluency needs. If you are feeling that your child may struggle with speech sounds, is hard to understand, or is having difficulty using expressive and receptive language in everyday communication, we would love to be on your team. Our goal is to partner with you as a parent and help propel your child forward toward meeting—and surpassing—their developmental milestones!
