My name is Demi, and I’m walking through a season of change I never could have fully prepared for. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, a place that felt like home in every sense. It was where I grew roots, built friendships, and felt steady. Saying goodbye to that life was harder than I ever imagined — it felt like leaving behind not just a place, but pieces of myself.
Soon after, I moved to Pikeville to begin medical school. It’s been exciting and full of opportunity, but also humbling and overwhelming. Some days I feel the weight of starting over, of being small in a world that asks so much of me. Other days, I feel glimmers of joy: new friendships forming, small wins in class, or moments where I sense God’s quiet nearness in the middle of my busyness.
Ecclesiastes 3 has become an anchor for me: “There is a time for everything.” These words remind me to slow down when I want to rush ahead, and to loosen my grip when I want to cling too tightly to what’s behind me. In laughter and in tears, in uprooting and in rebuilding, I’m learning that God’s timing is steady even when my own heart feels unsteady.
I don’t share this story because I have it figured out — I don’t. I share it because I believe God can use my small, ordinary, sometimes messy life to encourage someone else. If you’re reading this and it reminds you that your season has purpose and that God is with you in the middle of it, then every vulnerable piece was worth sharing.
Hi friends! I’m Demi, one of the co-founders of Rooted + Restored. Madison and I started this little space because we dreamed of a community where women could come together to be encouraged, share their stories, and walk with Jesus side by side.
A little about me — I’m a Kentucky girl at heart, currently in medical school, and I love coffee shop mornings, road trips, and spending time with my pup Daisy May. I also run a little Etsy shop on the side, which is one of my favorite creative outlets!
