We left from Michigan to Panama City Beach on Sunday February 4th, 2024, just before 7am and stopped at the local gas station to top off the tank. The Jeep flat towing hookup went extremenly well now that we know the trick to get the tow bars to click in and we were on the road at 7:15am. Temperature was 24 degrees F.
Starting mileage = 19045 miles
30.839 gallons at $2.899/gallon = $89.40
After about 2 and a half hours we stopped at the Bluffton I-75 exit for a breakfast sandwich and since the Circle K gas station looked easy to get in and out of we topped off the tank.
132.6 miles / 20.433 gallons = 6.5 mpg
$2.999/gal = $61.28
The drive to the Louisville South KOA was 393 miles and we stayed there 2 nights so we could experience the Bourbon Trail and check out Loiusville.
Lunch was great at Mussels & Burgers and the 1 hour tour with a tasting at Angels Envy was great.
On Tuesday Feb 6th we decided to skip stopping in Nashville and put in another long day on the road. We stopped at 8:57am at the Love's exit 116 I-65 to gas up and hook up the Jeep. It was ok to get in and out but there were a few pumps out of order and I pulled into a tight stop and the lady next to me wasn't impressed with how close I got to here. No biggy since I could see her.
Gas Stop #1 : 263.6 miles / 39.743 gallons = 6.63 mpg Gas was $2.629 per gallon total cost $104.48
As we entered the Nashville area the electronic traffic signs warned "Rough Road Ahead Use Caution". Most of the road was great except OMG yes there were some chunks of the road that cause us in the big RV to dart around where possible.
At exit 304 we pulled into a Pilot gas station for a break and some gas at 2:15pm.
Gas Stop #2 : 301.4 miles / 44.884 gallons = 6.71 mpg Gas was $2.839 per gallon total cost $127.43
We pulled into Birmingham South RV park around 3:30 pm and immediately realized we stayed there 2 years earlier on our way south. Our recollection was that during the night every 20 minutes or so a train would go by and it echoed thorughout the valley. This stay was much quieter since we were on one of the premium sites on the other side of park.
We left Birmingham South RV Park around 9am and had 269 miles to Panama City Beach via Dotham use highway 231 which is our prefered route. The Sun Outdoor Resort said yes when we asked if we could roll in on Wednesday instead of Saturday. We stopped in Ozark Alabama for gas and some lunch after 218 miles.
Gas Stop: 218.6 miles / 35.563 gallons = 6.14 mpg Gas was $2.999 per gallon total cost $106.65
This route is more stop and go drive being a hit to the MPG.
We arrived in PCB around 3pm but the site we booked wasn't suiting us so we upgraded to a premium site.
