Rollerskiing is an off-snow equivalent to cross country skiing. Rollerskis have wheels on their ends, In order to play it requires safety gears, ski boots, poles and a hard surface road. The skiing techniques used are similar to the technique used in snow skiing.
Classic Rollerski is equipped with specialized wheels featuring ratchets designed to prevent backward movement when the skier propels forward, simulating the sensation of skiing on snow. This classic technique, often referred to as the 'diagonal stride', closely mimics the motion and experience of cross-country skiing on snowy terrain.
Skating emerged as a skiing technique gaining prominence in the 1980s. It involves a lateral movement of the skis akin to ice skating or inline skating. This method of skiing offers greater speed and is integral to all biathlon competitions, which combine skiing and shooting. Skis utilized in skating lack grip wax, and rollerskis are devoid of ratchets.
"Biathlon stands out as one of the most thrilling Winter sports, seamlessly blending the endurance demands of cross-country skiing with the precision and finesse of target shooting."
It has now also applied in Summer sports rollerskiing.
